Senior Software Test Engineer

About the Team:

At Paylocity, our products are built around the people that use them. The People Data group is a is a fast-growing department within Paylocity's Data Practice category. We work hard to maintain a seamless experience throughout the entire suite by providing the platforms and tools to manage People Data securely and reliably. As we continue to grow and focus on expanding key areas of the People Data platform, we are creating a new team to maintain and enhance our Position Management tools. The team will be responsible for continuously evolving our React-powered client interface as well as scaling the background services and APIs that support it.

What you will do:

  • Act as the testing and QA lead for features or epics
  • Be adept at creating, executing, and supervising test plans for large-scale development projects
  • Solve complex testing issues
  • Analyze production incidents and regression bugs to identify and implement preventative measures
  • Design cleanly coded, comprehensive test automation framework for the team or product area
  • Consider future testing needs when designing test automation
  • Work with developers to create test harnesses that will enable automation for hard-to-test features
  • Understand and consider technical dependencies when creating test strategies
  • Work with Product Analysts to create thorough testing plans and a strategy for automated testing
  • Utilize, extend and create new automated testing frameworks
  • Identify opportunities for test architecture and implementation that can be reused by multiple teams
  • When needed, perform exploratory testing on the product to understand its challenges
  • Create and mentor/coach software engineers/ASTEs/STEs to create various forms of automated testing (of high complexity) and help team identify and use appropriate methods of testing.
  • Understand how to use security testing tools to find gaps in security coverage
  • Monitor state of quality, raising awareness and resolution of gaps in quality
  • Drive the team and organization toward implementing Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery pipeline, where needed. Identify and implement improvements for existing Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery

What you will bring:

  • Bachelor's degree or 4 years' experience
  • Ability to use multiple testing frameworks for different layers of the "tech stack" (server-side, client-side, etc)
  • Familiarity testing of Web applications running on Microsoft Technologies (.NET Core, .NET Framework, etc.)
  • Experience working with client-side web technologies (HTML, CSS, and JavaScript)
  • Deep understanding of testing APIs and API best practices
  • Experience writing SQL queries including joins
  • Ability to test consumer facing web applications
  • Knowledge of software testing best practices in an agile environment
  • Ability to change and have a willingness to learn
  • Strong sense of curiosity
  • Commitment to the role while take responsibility for tasks
  • Ability to work effectively in an agile and team environment
  • Creative and effective problem-solving skills

Nice to have:

  • Experience working with an object-oriented language (preferably C#)
  • Skills building automated testing frameworks from scratch
  • Knowledge of Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery integrations pipelines and associated platforms
  • Experience with load testing and APM tools like DataDog is a plus
  • Experience with NoSQL databases is a plus

As a Software Test Engineer within the People Data group, you'll have the opportunity to be involved in the development and support of our Product within a collaborative team environment. Your role is key in ensuring the stability and reliability of our products. You'll work side-by-side with Product Owners, Software Test Engineers, and Business Stakeholders, and be actively involved in an agile software development environment.
