Job Description

This role will play a pivotal part in the accelerated development of prototypes that can significantly impact the process of risk analysis and risk measurement at HSBC.

The main task of this position is to provide high-quality programming expertise into the Strategic Analytics unit within Global Risk Analytics (GRA). The VP of Financial Engineering will contribute to all aspects of programming work—within potentially several prototyping teams—in the construction and testing of analytic platforms. The role requires a high degree of flexibility as projects will necessitate the Model developer to rapidly alternate between two very different operating modes:

Key Responsibilities:
  • Rapid prototyping in the construction of proof-of-concept platforms
  • Development of polished software platforms for use in the business
Requirements:
  • MSc or PhD in a technical field such as Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Operational Research, and/or Information Systems (Informatics)
  • Solid experience in building and testing applications in a professional environment using Python
  • Some experience programming in a mathematical or engineering technical environment (such as MATLAB)
  • Knowledge of common design patterns
  • Strong knowledge of testing principles
  • Experience working with non-traditional database architectures (such as column-free / NoSQL / graph-theoretic structures)
  • Familiarity with algorithms for capturing and processing large datasets (i.e. Map/Reduce)
Desirable Skills:
  • Substantive and consistent experience developing applications using Java, C++, or C#
  • Experience working with Docker, Kubernetes, and Jenkins
