Network Security Engineer Role

This role focuses on network intrusion detection and prevention security products, solutions, architecture, and best practices.

As part of the Network Intrusion Detection and Prevention Security function within the Global Defence organisation, this role provides Cybersecurity security technology expertise and engineer service to the wider organisation.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing technical expertise and SME knowledge to engagements and projects assigned.
  • Taking ownership and driving projects to a successful conclusion.
  • Supporting other Cybersecurity or Connectivity Engineering team members through coaching, guidance, and leadership.
  • Ensuring adherence to network security standards and the wider cybersecurity control framework.
  • Continuously improving network security posture and promoting knowledge sharing and optimisation with the broader Cybersecurity team.
  • Working in a geographically dispersed team and adapting to a constantly evolving technology landscape with evolving threats and risks.

Required Skills:

  • Detailed understanding of network design, firewall, IDPS, content filtering, load balancing, DDoS, NAC, WAF, network segmentation technologies.
  • Detailed understanding of network security threats and risks.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with experience interacting with technical leaders and various layers of management.
  • Ability to build connections and work collaboratively across boundaries.
  • Willingness to continuously learn and share learnings with others.
  • Understanding of data networking principles and industry frameworks.
  • Understanding of risk management fundamentals.
  • Knowledge and experience of delivery using Agile and/or DevOps methodologies
  • Knowledge and experience of IT service management principles e.g. change control, incident and problem management, resilience and business recovery planning etc.
