What You Need to Succeed
- A bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Proven expertise in cloud infrastructure operations and automation, with expert-level knowledge of multiple cloud platforms, focusing on Google Cloud.
- Deep understanding of network, storage, and security principles, including designing, implementing, and operating at global, enterprise scale.
- Significant experience in major incident response and troubleshooting methodologies, leading teams to successful remediation of high-pressure incidents.
- PRACTICAL experience with containerization and orchestration technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.
- Outstanding influencing and communication skills, effectively communicating complex subject matter to senior executives.
- Strong scripting and automation skills, particularly with Python and Bash, as well as deep experience with infrastructure as code (IaC) tools such as Terraform and Ansible.
- Expert-level industry certifications across various technical subjects.

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Cloud DevOps Engineer with a strong emphasis on enterprise deployment methodologies and Kubernetes to join our dynamic team.
As an engineer, you will play a critical role in designing and deploying reliable, performant, and scalable infrastructure and applications, focusing on GCP Shared Services. Your expertise will be instrumental in supporting the team in delivering a seamless and highly available service to our customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic direction to the GCP Engineering team, leveraging deep enterprise experience and current industry best practices.
- Directly lead a small engineering pod, setting standards and delivering upon core practices such as infrastructure reliability, capacity planning, security, automation, incident management, performance optimization, monitoring, and alerting.
- Closely collaborate with senior stakeholders across functions, including Architecture, Security, and Compliance, Cyber Security, and other Cloud platform teams.
- Identify and remediate risks and issues proactively, ensuring they do not significantly impact the platform and its customers.
- Manage and prioritize the workload of a small team, defining epics, stories, or tasks required.
- Champion safe change, contributing to process improvements and promoting a culture of safety and accountability through change-related ceremonies and individual opportunities for feedback.
- As a senior technical leader, provide positive inputs to more strategic matters, including but not limited to culture, job design, resourcing, operating models, and cross-cloud consistency.
- Influence enterprise partners to drive changes to their roadmaps favoring HSBC priorities, strongly influence relevant product developments and shared initiatives to achieve stronger business outcomes.
- Develop oneself and others, maintaining and making progress against an ambitious personal development plan while seizing opportunities for day-to-day and more strategic technical development of the wider GCP team and its customers.
