Job Title: Software Development Expert

A software development expert delivers high-quality software components that meet product requirements.

  • Develops software to satisfy user needs
  • Fosters adherence to best practice guidelines and helps improve them
  • Maintains clean, secure, and well-tested code
  • Counsels and mentors junior colleagues
  • Operates the services they build and identifies issues in production
Main Responsibilities:
  • Programming and Build: Utilizes agreed implementation approaches to design, code, test, and document programs or scripts of medium-to-high complexity
  • Collaborates with others to review user stories and code, and develop implementation approaches
  • Systems Design: Translates logical designs into physical designs and produces detailed designs
  • Systems Integration: Builds and tests simple interfaces between systems and works on more complex integration as part of a wider team
  • Modern Standards Approach: Competently applies a modern standards approach and guides others to do so
  • Information Security: Maintains a strong understanding of information security and designs solutions and services with security controls embedded
  • Prototyping: Approaches prototyping as a team activity and uses a variety of prototyping methods and chooses the most appropriate
  • Service Support: Helps fix faults following agreed procedures and carries out maintenance tasks on infrastructure
  • User Focus: Collaborates with user researchers and represents users internally and champions user research to focus on all users
  • Availability and Capacity Management: Manages service components to ensure they meet business needs and performance targets
Requirements:
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Python, Java, JavaScript or others
  • Strong understanding of software development lifecycle and software development methodologies (e.g., Agile, Scrum)
  • Experience with version control systems like Git
  • Ability to write clean, maintainable, and efficient code
  • Knowledge of software development tools and practices, including continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD)
  • Understanding of database management and SQL
  • Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases
  • Experience with microservices architecture and RESTful API design
  • Experience with automated testing frameworks and tools
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure)
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with containerization and orchestrations tools (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Expertise in a specific area such as machine learning, cybersecurity, or mobile development
  • Understanding of DevOps practices and tools
  • Ability to lead and mentor junior developers
