Senior Python Developer

We're looking for a Senior Python Developer to solve hard problems and take responsibility for critical parts of our system. This is a hands-on role where you'll be expected to architect, build, and run major features—not just implement tickets from a backlog.

We are filtering for candidates who can demonstrate a history of technical leadership and pragmatic decision-making, not just familiarity with a list of tools.

About you

This Role Is For You If...

• You've led the development of a complex software project or feature from initial design to production. We will ask you to describe the technical trade-offs you made.
• You're comfortable being the go-to person for a major component of a system. You've diagnosed and fixed critical production issues, not just handed them off.
• You understand that engineering is about delivering value. You can explain a time you chose a simple, "boring" solution over a complex one because it was the right call.
• You have strong opinions, weakly held, about system architecture. You can defend your design choices but are willing to change your mind when presented with a better argument.
• You are driven by curiosity and a desire to learn. You actively seek to improve your skills and stay current with modern engineering practices.

About role

Core Responsibilities & Challenges

• Architect & Build: Design and implement robust backend services and data processing workflows. This isn't just about plumbing data; it's about building the core logic of our product.
• System Health: Take primary ownership for the performance and reliability of the services you build, while sharing responsibility with the team for the overall health and uptime of the entire platform.
• Technical Debt Management: Strategically identify and prioritize technical debt. You'll make the call on what needs refactoring to unblock progress, justify the effort, and then lead the execution.

Required Technical Experience

We expect deep, practical knowledge in the following areas. Be prepared to discuss them in detail.

• Python, Django, & PostgreSQL: Expert-level fluency is required. We're looking for experience building and maintaining non-trivial applications, including complex queries and data modeling.
• System Design & Architecture: You must be able to design systems composed of multiple services (e.g., API, async workers, database) and reason about their interactions, failure modes, and performance. A solid grasp of Linux, networking (HTTP), and containerization is essential.
• API Design: Proven experience designing, building, and maintaining clean, scalable REST APIs.
• Data Processing: Practical experience with data processing tools (e.g., Pandas, NumPy) and workflow orchestrators (e.g., Airflow). You should be able to design efficient and reliable patterns for data ingestion, storage, and serving.

Good to Have

Would be greate if you have hands-on experience with some of the following

• Familiarity with Kubernetes
• Familiarity with Terraform
• Familiarity with PostGIS or other GIS technologies
• Familiarity with Stripe or other payment solutions

About the position

This is a full-time position. Plot.ai is co-located with Marketer, and together we take great pride in our fun and inclusive culture, and we have several social activities a month such as morning swims along the pier at Tjuvholmen, game nights, and fun work-out sessions after work. If you work remotely, we will fly you to Oslo a couple of times a year to meet the rest of the team.
