Role overview

The QA Automation Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining high-quality automated tests for our web application hosted on AWS. This role is a blend of hands-on test development, creative problem solving, and collaboration with developers to ensure our product quality meets the highest standards.

You will take ownership of our existing Playwright-based test framework, expand coverage with well-structured and efficient tests, and introduce modern testing best practices to help us build a more reliable product.

A day in the life…

  • Collaborate with developers to define test coverage for new and existing features.
  • Write and maintain automated E2E tests in TypeScript using Playwright.
  • Design and implement smarter testing strategies, including:
  • Leveraging custom testing utilities to prepare and verify application state.
  • Performing multi-layer validations across APIs, UI, and data storage.
  • Simulating advanced user workflows to ensure realistic coverage.
  • Continuously improve test structure, reusability, and maintainability following modern best practices.
  • Monitor and maintain automated test runs in the CI/CD pipeline.
  • Investigate test failures, debug issues, and propose fixes to ensure stable releases.
  • Stay informed about modern testing trends (e.g., contract testing, visual regression, test flakiness reduction) and suggest process improvements.
  • Participate in code reviews for test automation code to maintain high standards.

What we are looking for…

Experience and skills:

  • 1–3 years of experience in test automation (E2E/UI/API).
  • Proficiency in TypeScript for writing and debugging automated tests.
  • Hands-on experience with Playwright, Puppeteer, or Cypress.
  • Understanding of the testing pyramid (E2E, integration, unit) and when to apply each.
  • Experience working with REST APIs and performing backend validations.
  • Knowledge of test data management (factories, mocks, stubs).
  • Familiarity with git and CI/CD workflows.
  • Basic understanding of AWS or cloud-based environments.

Nice to have:

  • Knowledge of visual regression testing tools.
  • Awareness of contract testing and test container usage.
  • Basic performance testing knowledge.
  • Exposure to PHP-based systems (helpful but not required).

Desired Personal Characteristics:

  • Proactive and curious — always looking for smarter ways to test.
  • Hands-on, detail-oriented, and methodical.
  • Strong communicator, able to collaborate closely with developers.
  • Self-starter who can take ownership of test coverage and quality improvements.
  • Comfortable balancing thorough testing with timely delivery.
  • Enjoys working in a small, collaborative, and fast-paced environment.

While working in Accolade you will enjoy the following benefits:

  • 5 weeks of vacation + personal days
  • 1 paid day off for your volunteerism per year
