Thousands of engineers globally are shaping this platform, and our Prague tech hub is a key part of that effort. But we don't just keep the engine running—we push the tech boundaries of what's possible, alongside teams from Lisbon, London, and New York. Here in Prague, we have teams specializing in frontend development (including mobile, TV, and web), backend development (Java), DevOps & Platform Engineering, AWS, and data science.

What is the plot?

In the App Hosting team in Prague, you will be part of a larger Developer Platform Engineering department that spans Prague, Lisbon, and London. We develop and provide a platform that empowers development and SRE teams to deploy their applications safely and run them reliably, securely and efficiently at scale.

The team in Prague have become experts in the Kubernetes networking, observability, and traffic management space, working with technologies like Cilium, Hubble, Contour, Envoy and Istio. We are growing the team in Prague to enable us to provide even more features to the Developer Platform.

The App Hosting team provides the basic cloud infrastructure and Kubernetes components that are required for our compute platform, with networking and traffic management, security, service discovery, and observability. Development teams have a common path to production that allows them to build once, test, and deploy everywhere to build the global streaming platform.

Running a platform at scale requires us to develop software that will keep our infrastructure running effectively without manual intervention. We ensure that we are able to remain flexible in our technology choices by building simple interfaces for functionality. We strive to bring a rich set of features to users of our platform. For this, we use the Kubernetes Operator pattern, which allows us to extend the functionality of Kubernetes, encoding our platform's business logic in Golang applications that ensure that the features development teams consume are reliable, safe, and easy to consume.

What role will you play?

As a Platform Engineer, you will play a role in advancing new features on the platform as well as enhancing and ensuring the reliability of our existing features. You will work primarily with the team in Prague but will also have plenty of interaction with engineers and tech leads in Lisbon and London.

You will learn from other experienced Platform Engineers, work to continuously improve with other members of the team, all while designing and developing new features for the platform

In our team, we take ownership of the products and specific features that we deliver to the platform. We care deeply about bringing value to the users of the platform.

Your daily tasks:

• Ensure that current features are running smoothly

• Identify and fix bugs, if they are not running smoothly

• Project focused work to add or enhance features of the platform (likely related to Cilium, Hubble, Istio technologies, or Networking, Service Mesh, Service Discovery, Traffic Management features more generally)

• Working with Kubernetes intensively

• Development using Golang, Helm

• Fundamental knowledge of the networking stack, the Kubernetes Networking model, and Unix/Kubernetes specific tools and techniques for debugging or inspecting the network is a big plus

• Any experience with Cilium, Hubble, Contour, Envoy, or Istio is nice to have

• Good writing skills (especially in English)

• Independence, a strong sense of ownership and responsibility are must have qualities.

• Good communication skills in English, the ability and desire to work as part of a team, and the ability to clearly communicate your ideas and opinions

• A growth mindset, and the ability to take responsibility for your learning and development

What skills do you need to play your role well?

• Kubernetes (CKA or CKAD or CKS, certification is not required, but you should feel comfortable working at this level) (We can provide training for this.)

• Good background in software development principles

• Comfortable writing and reading Golang code, preferably your current primary programing language

• Fundamental knowledge of the networking stack, the Kubernetes Networking model, and Unix/Kubernetes specific tools and techniques for debugging or inspecting the network

• Any experience with Cilium, Hubble, Contour, Envoy, or Istio is nice to have

• Good writing skills (especially in English)
