Workdays & Hours: Part-time position, 29 hours; the number of hours will fluctuate depending on Department needs but cannot exceed an average of 29 hours. Nights and weekends are common with some holidays.

A part-time Office Assistant job is available with the City of Fort Worth Police Department, Employment Services. The Police Department is one of the largest Departments in the City with more than 2,400 sworn and civilian employees. This position will contribute to the City's strategic goals, mission, and vision.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma/GED certification.
  • Two (2) years of responsible clerical experience.
  • Must pass Drug Screen and background check.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel).
  • General Human Resource experience, fundamental principles and procedures of record keeping.

The Office Assistant job responsibilities include:

  • Filing documents and reports in an organized manner according to department specifications; organizing, filing and retrieving departmental or divisional records.
  • Prepare routine reports, entering data and information into various computer programs.
  • Uses computer to prepare routine forms, letters, reports and other data; inputs records; assembles reports, copies, and collates and staples documents.
  • Enters a variety of data and information into various computer programs.
  • Provides general clerical support as assigned by staff in assigned department.
  • Assists with special departmental events/projects.

Working Conditions

Final candidates selected for hire in the Police Department will be subject to a fingerprint/criminal history background check and polygraph examination. Applicants must not have used marijuana during the previous two (2) years, nor illegally used any controlled substances within the last ten (10) years.

Applicants for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility. Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, the following will result in being disqualified for this position: Felony Convictions, Felony Deferred Adjudication, Class A Misdemeanor Conviction, Class B Misdemeanor Convictions in the last 10 years, Class A Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication, Class B Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication in the last 10 years, an Open Arrest for Any Criminal Offense (Felony or Misdemeanor), and ALL Family Violence Convictions regardless of class.

Physical Demands

Light Work – Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly having to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for the Sedentary Work category and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated Light Work
