We are now looking for a Data Engineer to join our global IT team.

This position is based in our modern Ostrava office, but your daily work will involve collaboration with colleagues from the Netherlands and other locations of the company.

In this role, you will design, build, and maintain scalable, reliable data infrastructure, integrating data from multiple sources, ensuring high quality, and providing easy access for analytical and operational needs.

You will act as a key link between IT, business stakeholders, and data teams, collaborating closely with business users, development/support partners, and the central data team of the Business Area Packaging Solutions.

You will be located in our modern office in Ostrava, Czechia and report hierarchically to the IT Director/ functionally to the Data Product Owner.

Key responsibilities

1. Implement and enhance data solutions

• Develop robust and reusable data pipelines (ETL/ELT processes) to extract, transform, and load data from internal and external sources using established tools and frameworks.
• Configure and optimize existing warehouses, data marts, and other storage structures aligned with the organization's information needs.
• Apply established data modelling techniques such as data vault modeling, dimensional modeling, and star schemas.
• Develop data visualizations based on prioritized business demand using standardized tools.
• Collaborate with external vendors on data and reporting related development topics.
• Ensure sufficient documentation for developed solutions utilizing the company wide data catalog.

2. Use of tools and technology

• Manage Data Warehouse Automation tools such as TimeXtender.
• Work with programming languages such as SQL, Python (optional: Scala, R) and scripting tools.
• Develop reports and dashboards with Qlik Sense and NPrinting.
• Integrate cloud-native technologies such as Azure Data Factory.
• Participate in projects to develop BU WE specific data solutions towards Snowflake, dbt and PowerBI based architecture.

3. Data governance and compliance

• Implement data governance guidelines and policies, including data lineage, metadata management, data stewardship, and access control.
• Ensure compliance with regulations such as GDPR and ISO 27001.
• Collaborate with data owners, data stewards, data analysts, compliance officers, and security specialists to safeguard data security, quality, and integrity.

4. Quality assurance and monitoring

• Set up data quality controls and automated validation for completeness, consistency, timeliness, and accuracy.
• Monitor the performance of data pipelines and workloads; optimize queries and storage structures.
• Work with application engineers to resolve data and reporting issues/incidents.

5. Collaboration and advisory

• Consult with business and data analysts, other data engineers and data platform engineers, data stewards, and end users regarding information needs and data possibilities.
• Translate functional requirements into technical solutions.
• Co-develop solutions in collaboration with external vendors.

Who are we looking for?

• Proven experience in a similar position, 2 – 3 years working with data as data analyst or data engineer or similar role.
• Bachelor's or Master's level analytical thinking and relevant education in data, computer science, or a related field.
• Analytical skills – able to understand complex data flows and structures.
• Problem-solving mindset – quickly and effectively resolves data and performance issues.
• Collaboration – able to work across IT, business, and data stakeholders.
• Communication skills – translates requirements into technical solutions and manages expectations effectively.
• Quality-oriented – focused on data quality, reliability, and compliance.
• Result-driven – able to uncover the underlying business needs and deliver value.
• Willingness to travel to the Netherlands regularly to connect with the team and business.
• Proficient in English, and willingness to work with Dutch Data.
