INTERFER, starting October 2025 (until December 2028)

We are looking for a new colleague for the position of a Postdoctoral Researcher under the project INTERFER which studies foreign interference by foreign powers in the context of current geopolitical and technological changes. The Institute of International Relations in Prague is a partner in this project led by Charles University Prague

INTERFER is an OPJAK 48-month running research project focusing on the effects of foreign interference practices on public opinion, the domestic and foreign policy adaptations of states to this threat, and the technological evolution of tools used by external powers to exert influence. The postdoc will work within the work package 4 focusing on the technological tools used in foreign interference in the European Union and NATO. The work package focuses on three areas where foreign interference practices intersect with technological change: disinformation dissemination in the online space, cybersecurity, and digital industrial policy. Using insights from science and technology studies, sociology and political science, the work package aims at understanding and critically assessing the usage of digital technologies in practices of foreign interference.

The principal duty of the Postdoctoral Researcher will be to develop their own research project within the framework of the research project, focusing on the role of digital technologies in practices of foreign interference. The project offers the ability for research mobility and travel funds for conferences.

Expected responsibilities and duties

• Design and start-to-end implement partial research projects (from research design, through data collection to article publishing).
• Disseminate research results in the form of organising events for policy makers and expert public.
• Conduct expert interviews (if applicable)
• Initiate and collaborate on publishing articles in high quality journals.
• Participate in grant applications within the team, either as a lead researcher or team member.
• Present research at international conferences.

What We Expect

• A PhD in political science, European studies, sociology, technology studies or a related field. The degree must be obtained before the start of the employmentand and should not be older than seven years at the time of the application call.
• A proven theoretical and empirical familiarity in the field of digital technology or security technology.
• Experience with publishing academic articles.
• Experience with presenting research at international conferences. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with proficiency in spoken and written English.
• Ability to work in a multidisciplinary and diverse environment.

• A full-time job until December 2028. Remuneration: CZK gross/monthly
