Backend Engineer, Integrations

As a Backend Engineer (Java), you will join our cross-functional Integrations team, collaborating closely with frontend engineers, backend engineers, QAs, and a product manager. You will help shape the future of our integrations—a platform that connects Phrase TMS with external systems and services. You will take an active role in ensuring our systems operate seamlessly in production environments.

What you'll be responsible for:

• Develop and maintain Java backend services that integrate with third-party systems.
• Analyze various 3rd party systems to identify the best way to integrate them with Phrase.
• Design and implement solutions that allow us to move a large number of content at scale.

• We use Java 21 and Java 24 for most of our services and try to keep up-to-date.

• Experience developing Java and Spring Boot applications in cloud-based microservice environments.
• Knowledge of PHP (we have a plugin for Drupal and Wordpress) - the majority of our code is Java, however.
• Strong understanding of REST principles and best practices.
• Proficiency with databases (we use MongoDB) and experience with queuing/messaging systems like Kafka or RabbitMQ.
• Experience with test automation frameworks such as JUnit, Testcontainers, or WireMock.

• You enjoy collaborating in cross-functional teams and believe in sharing knowledge to drive success.
• You have a passion for solving complex technical problems and are always seeking ways to improve existing systems.
• You are self-driven and comfortable taking ownership of projects from concept to deployment.
