Přehled

Bioinformatics and computational biology integrate computer science, mathematics, and biology, focusing on processing, analyzing, and modeling biological data and processes at the molecular and cellular level. They involve developing analytical methods and software tools for large, domain-specific, and heterogeneous data to understand cellular processes and apply findings in medicine and biotechnology.

Offer of dissertation topics:

  • Molecular and cellular analysis of the ischemic brain using spatial and single-cell transcriptomics

Profile of the graduate

The graduate understands key areas of informatics, such as algorithms and software systems development. She/he is also well acquainted with the most important methods and new discoveries in the field of natural sciences related to her dissertation topic. The graduate can define problems, come up with their solutions, implement these and present and defend the results of her work in the domestic and international environment. The graduate will find employment mainly in research and development, both in academic and commercial settings, whether it is a position requiring processing and analysis of biomolecular data (e.g., in hospitals) or research positions in the pharmaceutical industry or biotechnology companies. However, the interdisciplinarity of the field requires the graduate to be able to integrate knowledge and data from different domains, making her also prepared for data-oriented positions outside the field of natural sciences.

Application submission

The application is submitted electronically through the Charles University study information system. The completed application must be submitted electronically in the study information system no later than on for study programmes starting in the winter semester (October) and no later than on for study programmes starting in the summer semester (April).

The admission fee is 100 EUR and it is paid for each submitted application.

Required application appendice is the agreement of a supervisor in the format of the following form available here. We recommend reaching out to the supervisor as soon as possible (ideally before for study programmes starting in the winter semester and before for study programmes starting in the summer semester), so the application could be send out in time in case the agreement is granted.
