Manager, Source-to-Contract, R&D, EMEA

The Manager, Source-to-Contract, will ensure that the Regional Global Services Procurement (GSP) Source-to-Contract organization effectively supports the Research & Development (R&D) category, aligning with the broader Global Services, One Procurement, and Johnson & Johnson business strategies and objectives. This role works closely with R&D stakeholders, category leaders, and the broader function to deliver value. A significant focus of this position is on contracting activities, where legal and compliance expertise would be highly advantageous.

The role involves contributing to and/or owning the operational execution of prioritized category strategy implementations, sourcing and contracting cases, and other critical functional activities within the R&D space. This includes overseeing activities related to the development of the organization's strategic sourcing plan, from maintaining supplier relationships to executing contract negotiations, authoring, and management activities.

The Manager, Source-to-Contract, will work to identify and address the needs of internal R&D stakeholders, contribute to procurement strategy improvements, and stay current on market trends relevant to R&D, contracting and compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage a team of individual contributors, conducting effective performance management.
• Oversee operational aspects of the team (e.g., workflow, metrics, compliance) and ensure achievement of team goals within established timelines, delivering against defined Service Levels.
• Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory, legal, and company policies and procedures, with a strong emphasis on legal and compliance considerations in contracting.
• Lead and actively participate in day-to-day operations of the Source-to-Contract function, including sourcing event management, price and contract term negotiations, contract drafting, and stakeholder engagement.
• Support the R&D category by developing and executing sourcing strategies that address the unique needs of research and development activities, with a focus on contracting, legal, and compliance requirements.
• Collaborate across departments to develop strategies that enhance the organization's profitability and competitive position, utilizing market intelligence, risk assessments, and total cost projections.
• Drive continuous improvements in user experience, effectiveness, and efficiency within the assigned area.
• Support automation and AI initiatives within the procurement process, particularly in contracting and legal review workflows.
• Build strong, value-added relationships with internal stakeholders, external suppliers, and legal/compliance teams to proactively understand and influence their needs and expectations.
• Incorporate Johnson & Johnson's Credo and Leadership Imperatives into team goals and decision-making processes.

Qualifications

• Education:
• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent University degree is required.
• An MBA or advanced degree is preferred.

Experience and Skills:

Required:

• Experience in leading, developing, and motivating teams, with a strong ability to manage performance, foster collaboration, and drive a high-performance culture.
• 6-8 years of Procurement, Legal, Compliance, Finance, or relevant business experience, particularly supporting R&D or contracting functions.
• Strong collaboration, communication, and influencing skills, with the ability to represent Source-to-Contract and procurement effectively within cross-functional teams and externally.
• Learning agility and openness to change.
• Fluency in English (written and oral) is required.

Preferred:

• In-depth understanding of sourcing, contracting processes, and Source-to-Settle operations, especially within R&D or highly regulated environments.
• Experience in one or more procurement domains such as sourcing negotiations, category management, R2P, or Accounts Payable.
• Industry experience in shared services or R&D procurement is preferred.
• Fluency in another language relevant to the supported region is a plus.

• Up to 5% domestic and international travel may be required.
