As JetBrains continues to expand its business activities, we are seeking a proactive Legal Tech Engineer to join our global Legal and Compliance team – a group of over 50 lawyers, compliance experts, and support staff.
This hybrid role blends legal expertise with technical acumen. You will develop innovative tools and solutions to enhance efficiency, transparency, and workflows across our legal function, helping us become a more data-driven and strategically aligned business partner.
Key responsibilities:
- Workflow development: Design, develop, and maintain custom internal applications, bots, and intelligent agents (including LLM-powered tools) to automate routine legal tasks, streamline workflows, and enhance decision-making using low-code/no-code platforms. This includes writing, testing, and debugging code.
- API integration: Connect and manage API integrations between various legal and business systems, ensuring seamless data flow and functionality for new tools and platforms.
- Data modelling and dashboarding: Design, develop, and maintain data models and interactive dashboards using BI tools (such as Power BI or Tableau) to provide real-time insights into legal performance and spend.
- Mentoring and knowledge-sharing: Mentor and coach Legal and Compliance team members, and actively promote a continuous-improvement mindset and knowledge-sharing culture within the Legal and Compliance department.
- Project management: Drive and support legal tech implementation projects using Agile methodologies for efficient task tracking and delivery.
- KPI accountability: Be accountable for meeting efficiency and service-level KPIs owned by legal operations, demonstrating tangible value.
- Backlog prioritization: Prioritize the legal-ops backlog and strategically allocate time to the highest-value work.
- Workshop leadership: Lead cross-team workshops, facilitating discussions and achieving consensus on process changes.
Required skills:
Technical proficiency:
- Experience in data analytics and business intelligence tools such as Power BI, Tableau, SQL, or Excel
- Deep knowledge and hands-on experience with legal technology platforms (CLM, DMS, eSignature, AI-powered intake/matter management, e-billing systems).
- Proficiency in workflow automation and low-code/no-code development concepts. Proven ability to develop and deploy complex workflow automations using platforms like Microsoft Power Automate, Google AppsScript, Google AI Studio, Zapier, or similar. Demonstrated experience in building functional applications using low-code/no-code platforms (e.g. Power Apps).
- Experience administering and customizing project management tools, including workflow design, user support, and administration.
- Proven ability to facilitate or support integrations between various legal and business systems using either custom API integrations or no-code solutions.
Operational excellence:
- Proficiency in project management frameworks, particularly Agile.
- Advanced knowledge and practical application of Lean and Kaizen principles (Six Sigma preferred) for process optimization.
- Proven ability to effectively manage organizational change.
Communication and advocacy:
- Strong communication skills to bridge legal and business teams, translating complex needs into actionable solutions.
- Being a proven advocate for change in a broader organization.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor, coach, and foster a continuous-improvement mindset.
Analytical and problem-solving:
- Strong critical thinking to identify operational gaps and develop data-driven solutions.
- Strategic thinking to align legal objectives with broader business priorities.
- Proactive identification and mitigation of risks related to legal systems and data.
Experience and qualifications:
- Legal background: Minimum 8 years of Post-Qualified Experience (PQE) providing insights into legal colleagues' day-to-day agenda.
- Legal tech experience: Minimum 4 years of dedicated experience specifically in legal tech.
- Legal-to-tech transition: A proven career transition from a traditional legal role into hands-on technology work.
- Demonstrated impact: Proven track record of delivering measurable improvements in cost reduction, efficiency gains, and enhanced transparency within legal workstreams.
